Arsenal poor record at the Etihad continues with a 1–0 loss to Manchester City.

An early goal was the difference between the two sides as Arsenal played catch up for 3/4 of the match. Manchester City was able to split Arsenals midfield with a well-timed pass from Mahrez to an unmarked Aguero who had a lot of space in centre half. Aguero passed to Foden who had his shot blocked only for Sterling to score on the follow-up.

Arsenal’s defence continued to be caught out with Mahrez having space on the wing. Sterling found Aguero open in the box who’s shot was blocked by Leno.

Arsenal had a chance with two of their younger players in Bakuya Saka and Kieren Tierney combining. Linking up on the left, Tierney gave a touch pass to Saka who played the ball back to Aubameyang in a 1–2 play to Saka. Saka’s shot was saved.

The second half started with Mahrez taking a shot outside of the box, which was easily blocked by Leno.

Cancelo play on the byline was blocked by David Luiz which resulted in a corner for Manchester City.

The second half continued with plenty of opportunities for both sides.

Pepe’s last play before being subbed off was a free-kick that went wide of the left post.

Arsenal allowed Manchester too much room to move. Every time they went forward, it was pretty easy for them, and Arsenal found themselves scrambling back to defend. Conversely, Arsenal found it very hard to break through Manchester City’s defence, only being able to go through the wings and crossing in apart from the play with Saka and Tierney. There weren't many times where Arsenal’s front three were able to go through the middle because of Manchester City’s defence.

Arsenal needs to work on their defensive efforts when they lose possession. A 3–4–3 formation with Partey starting with either Ceballos or Xhaka in the midfield may be their best way to help their defence. One good thing for Arsenal is knowing that their young players are doing well. Saka and Tierney played really well with limited opportunities. Hopefully, next week’s performance can result in 3 points, but it won't be an easy task with Leicester City. A win for Arsenal can get them back on track and sitting again in the top 4.
